Section Info:
Fundamental principles of mathematical optimization theory will be introduced and applied, for example, to problems in engineering, business, and politics. It will also be shown how they apply to �real world� problems such as grocery shopping, planning a retirement portfolio, or catching a fly ball. Students will research and numerically model a problem of their choice. Prerequisite: Math 220 or 221 or equivalent http://www.ae.uiuc.edu/people/faculty/conway.html. First year Discovery Program Course. Registration restricted to freshmen. Students should enroll in only one Discovery course.
