Credit: 3 hours.
One major emphasis on foreign policy, including the emergence of the United States as a great power after 1898; a second emphasis on the Progressive movement and recurrent attempts at the reform of American society; and racial and urban problems and the conservation of natural resources included. Credit is not given for both HIST 272 and either HIST 172 or HIST 173.
