Sect. G4B: Intro. to Japanese Linguistics This course examines several key areas of Japanese linguistics: phonetics, phonology, morphology, syntax, discourse, and sociolinguistics. The first half of the course discusses traditional approaches to phonetics, phonology, and morphology, with the aim of providing the students with an understanding of basic linguistic concepts in those areas. The second half of the course introduces the students to a growing body of research in Japanese linguistics that explores the relationship among syntax, discourse, conversation, and sociolinguistic aspects of language use.
