Presents the atomistic concepts of statistical thermodynamics and shows its relationship to classical phenomenological thermodynamics. Applies the methods of statistical thermodynamics and statistical mechanics to describe the properties of a variety of materials, especially ceramics, polymers, electronic materials, and metals.
Prerequisite: One of CHEM 444, CHBE 321, ME 404, MSE 401, PHYS 427.
