Credit: 3 hours.

Provides an introduction to the characterization and use of biomaterials in medical applications. Presents concepts of biocompatibility in terms of structure and properties of materials and interactions between materials and proteins, cells, and tissue. Lectures are augmented with clinical presentations.

Prerequisite: MSE 406; credit or concurrent registration in MCB 252.
