Emphasizes business correspondence and simulation of business practices in the areas introduced in FR 485; also focuses on geographic and economic topics pertaining to France within the European community and Europe in general.

3 undergraduate hours. 2 graduate hours. Prerequisite: FR 485 or equivalent, or consent of instructor.

Emphasis on authentic, pragmatic, and functional use of French for professional purposes. Special focus on business practices in the European Union and Canada, along with in-depth analysis of corporate financing and accounting, transport, banking, insurance, trade unions, marketing and advertising, import-export, customs formalities, and the stock market. Course participants will engage in a wide range of problem-solving and team-building activities, including case studies, web site design, and team projects with oral presentations in PowerPoint. Included in the syllabus will be a CITES Student Technology Training workshop in Dreamweaver specifically tailored to the course. Students who successfully complete French 486 will also have the opportunity to take the Paris Chamber of Commerce and Industry written and oral exams offered on our campus in April in order to receive additional certification (Diplome de Francais des Affaires, or DFA 1, www.fda.ccip.fr). As Illinois Compass uses the latest web technologies, to participate in the course, students will likely need to update their browers before logging on for the first time.
