Credit: 3 hours.

Introduction to the materials science and engineering of ceramics, electronic materials, metals and polymers. Bonding; crystallography; imperfections; processing and properties of semiconductors, polymers, metals, ceramics and composites; and phase diagrams. Case studies will be used to exemplify the lecture material.

Credit is not given for both MSE 280 and either TAM 324 or ME 330. Prerequisite: PHYS 212, MATH 342, and credit or registration in PHYS 214.
