Credit: 3 hours.

Provides an overview of MatSE as a basis for understanding how structure/property/processing relationships are developed and used for different types of materials. Illustrates the role of materials in modern society by case studies of advances in new materials and processes. Laboratory/discussion periods will be devoted to demonstrations and experiments that illustrate the lectures. Design teams will analyze or synthesize objects that use materials creatively.
