Credit: 3 hours.

Survey of the human body functions and dysfunctions and their underlying molecular, cellular and integrative mechanisms. Offered in two formats: regular (Section B) and self-paced (Section A). In the self-paced format the lecture portion is replaced by intensive readings, quizzes, and exams. The laboratory portion of the course is offered under MCB 104.

Prerequisite: High School chemistry and/or basic biology strongly recommended.

Section A - SELF-PACED OPTION - All students must register for the lecture (self-paced format, Section A). Students must attend orientation lecture Thursday, August 24, 2006 at 12:30 pm in 228 Natural History Bldg. After orientation instruction is self-paced with structured readings and biweekly quizzes and repeatable exams. In the self-pace option there will be NO regular lectures but frequent review sessions and exams and quizzes. These activities will all be held in Room 228 NHB on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 12:30-2:00pm. Esmail (Essie) Meisami, course instructor. Email is meisami@life.uiuc.edu.
