The sequence, CHEM 540 and CHEM 542, is designed to give seniors and graduate students a unified treatment of physical chemistry on an advanced level; topics include the electronic structure and spectra of atoms, principles of wave mechanics, experimental and theoretical aspects of the chemical bond in diatomic and polyatomic molecules, statistical thermodynamics, and chemical kinetics.
Prerequisite: CHEM 444 or equivalent.
