MUST CHOOSE 2 OR 4 CREDIT HOURS, for questions concerning the 2 or 4 credit hours, please email the instructor at vhotchki@illinois.edu. The History and Practice of Bibliotherapy explores the field of Bibliotherapy (the use of books for psychological healing and personal development) as an historic and currently popular phenomenon. We will look at the long history of bibliotherapy, explore scientific evidence and critique of it as a form of psychotherapy, and investigate different types of bibliotherapy. Students who complete this class will understand the field of bibliotherapy as well as the role librarians play in connecting readers to meaningful books.
