- PLEASE NOTE: This is an intensive course that runs from Tuesday, May 26, 2026, to Friday, May, 29, 2026, from 10:00am to 4:50pm and may require extra coursework outside of meeting dates. COURSE MATERIALS FEE AND/OR FIELD TRIP FEE MAY BE REQUIRED. Information on iSchool Summer Intensives can be found at https://summerintensive.ischool.illinois.edu/. This course introduces students to the fundamentals of doing social science research in LIS, whether interested in publishing academic work, gauging opinions from your library patrons, or gaining insights into the needs of your community. Students will learn about research design, research ethics, and how to share research all while collecting and analyzing observation, interview, and survey data in this hands-on weeklong research.
