Section Info:
This is a self-contained 3 credit hour online course. Students in this online course do not register for a quiz section. This course will have three proctored online exams that carry no fees. Summer online CHEM 102O is an 8-week online class that covers 24 chemistry topics, with 4 of these topics being covered each week. Summer online CHEM 102O is NOT a completely asynchronous online class. Due to the amount of content that is being covered weekly in the summer, over an 8-week period, this online class has 2-hour live, mandatory classes called Lesson Reviews, that are held twice weekly in a Zoom classroom with students, the professor and teaching assistants all working together. There is a 5-minute break after the first hour. The content of each chemistry topic being taught is shared with students using pre-recorded lesson videos in the form of playlists and the professor also provides detailed class notes for each topic. The reason why these mandatory Lesson Reviews are held twice a week is to attempt to help all students effectively review 2 chemistry topics during each class, with the primary focus of each class being teaching problem-solving techniques that involve students being shown how to apply and then being asked to apply the content of these two chemistry topics. These problem-solving techniques are critical, as students have weekly online quizzes, homework and assignments on the 4 chemistry topics that are covered each week. Effective problem-solving techniques are modeled throughout each Lesson Review, former Exam problems are done, and very helpful exam information and exam-taking techniques are shared. Graded clicker questions are also asked during these mandatory, live, Lesson Reviews to help students and the professor evaluate the understanding of each of the two chemistry topics that are reviewed during each two-hour class. Students are strongly encouraged to reach out to the professor of the summer online CHEM 102 class via email with any additional questions about how the online class is structured, before registering for this online class and before the start date of the class.
