Section Info:
This course continues the course of study began in First Year Yiddish. Emphasis will shift slightly towards reading and speaking. We will read and discuss more complicated texts and continue class correspondence. The class has three main objectives. 1. Developing fluency in the language. By the end of the semester students will be able to hold a conversation on Intermediate High level (on topics of personal or public interest; create with language, describe/compare processes, systems or people and places in great detail; deal with/ get through a social and academic/professional situation. How will this be demonstrated? In a series of SHOW-AND-TELL presentations in class. 2. Developing and creatively processing cultural knowledge (discussing authentic sources, mostly American Yiddish literature and press) 3. Developing translation skills in the final project. Course requirements: • webcam and headphones and microphone or headset • active participation in class, being on time • regular and timely homework submission • show-and-tell oral evaluations • creative final project. This section is offered through the BTAA Course Share Program and will be video-conference/Zoom/online taught by University of Michigan.
