This course provides support through a team-based approach for BHWELL scholars during field placement while highlighting techniques, skills, and evidence-based practices that students will need to function at a high level as a clinical social worker and behavioral health consultant in primary care settings, with emphasis on underserved populations and areas as defined by HRSA. Required seminar for BHWELL scholars on the integration of behavioral health and primary care. Course prerequisites are SOCW 515 and SOCW 553; or by permission of BHWELL Project Director. There are 4 interactive online BHWELL discussion seminars that will take place via Zoom from 6:30-8:00 pm on the following dates: Wednesday 1/28/2026 Tuesday 2/10/2026 Wednesday 2/25/2026 Wednesday 3/25/2026

Academic Writing for the PhD Student The course is structured as a guided writing workshop experience. Each class session will consist of protected writing time, guided exercises to develop and practice new skills, and lecture/discussion to provide foundational knowledge in the conventions of academic writing. Concepts and skills covered in the course include the structure of academic articles, formulating a hypothesis or argument for a paper, synthesizing existing research for various purposes (literature reviews, systematic reviews, scoping reviews), language and conventions for academic writing, selecting journals for publication, responding to reviews, and building a consistent writing habit. Restricted to Social Work PhD Students at UIUC or by permission of the instructor
