Major restrictions will be lifted at 12pm on Monday, November 17, 2025. This course aims to explore the politics of tabletop board gaming. The course will center on games as an interactive art form for expressing implicit and explicit messages about the political world, for exploring political themes through play, and for learning about politics. We will also explore related topics such as the politics of game design (e.g., who designs games and what stories are told through them), the politics of game manufacturing (e.g., how politics becomes embedded in the material reality of game components), and the politics of game playing (e.g., inclusion and exclusion in gaming as an activity).

Major restrictions will be lifted at 12pm on Monday, November 17, 2025 The Information Revolution is changing the world in all sorts of ways. "Politics of the internet" explores how the internet has affected politics—including politicians' public communications, terrorist recruitment, foreign influence operations, campaigning, the structure and behavior of political media, and more—as well as political questions of the internet itself, such as social media content moderation and free speech. Students will be expected to attend and participate in discussions, write multiple papers, and present material to the class. Not available to students who have taken an advanced-level version of this class in SP22, SP23 or SP25. Not available to students who have taken this course as PS 199 in SP24.
