Applied Soil Ecology

Credit: 3 hours.

This course will review the underlying concepts, theory, and application of modern soil ecology. Students will study the groups of organisms that form the soil food web, the factors that influence their spatial and temporal distribution, and their role in soil function and delivery of ecosystem services. Throughout the semester, the course will use a series of readings, lectures, writing assignments, and discussions of peer-reviewed literature to provide extensive consideration of root-soil-microbial-faunal interactions.

NA 3 undergraduate hours. 3 graduate hours. Credit is not given toward graduation for: NRES 436 and NRES 499 Soil Ecology. Prerequisite: NRES 201 or equivalent, and NRES 219 or equivalent. Restricted to students with Junior, Senior or Graduate class standing.
