Internships and Professional Experiences

SHOW FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Credit: 1 TO 3 hours.

Develops career readiness competencies as students engage in professional experiences, such as internships, service learning, volunteer opportunities, or a part-time job. Students connect these professional experiences to both their academic journeys and next steps after graduation. Career development theories are demonstrated and applied, helping students develop lifelong career management competencies.

May be repeated in separate terms to a maximum of 6 hours. Duration of commitment to professional experience and level of academic involvement are reflected in the number of credit hours enrolled. Prerequisite: Instructor approval required. Restricted to students enrolled in a bachelor's degree program in the College of LAS. Students must be concurrently enrolled in some professional experience.

Students make the most of their hands-on experience by engaging in active reflection, connecting experiences to both their academic journey and their next steps after Illinois. This course is open to bachelor’s degree seeking students in LAS who have identified a professional experience that dedicates at least 30 hours (1-credit hour) to at least 60 hours (2- or 3-credit hours) of time over a prolonged engagement. The course must be completed in the term in which the professional experience is completed. The full class meets in-person 8 Tuesdays over the semester. Restriction(s): Restricted to Liberal Arts & Sciences.
