Credit: 3 OR 4 hours.

This course examines the experiences of Black families in K-12 schools. Historical, social, and contextual factors influencing these experiences will be considered. Topics such as racial identity, racial socialization, parent engagement in schools, parent-child relationships, critical consciousness, and how they relate to school experiences will be covered. The aim of this course is to think critically about education as a social institution, how it relates to Black families’ experiences, and how race plays a factor.
