Visualizing Our World
Credit: 3 hours.
Our world is dominated by visuals and visuals construct our understanding of the world. This class investigates images, from creation to circulation, and everything in between. The first half of the course is dedicated to developing a vocabulary for describing and analyzing photographs and their role in creating and/or critiquing our world. The second half of the semester offers students the chance to produce images while also discussing the ethics and responsibilities of image production. Overall, the class offers a chance to explore the medium of photography as both a skill and an area of research and criticism.
3 undergraduate hours. 3 graduate hours. Prerequisite: Prior coursework in AGCM recommended.
