Section Title:
Disney Story, Culture, Fandom
Section Info:
One Little Spark: Disney Storytelling, Culture, and Fandom: From theme parks to video games, hand-drawn animation to mascot characters, the Walt Disney Company was formed through a “journey into imagination” by pioneering and experimenting with storytelling in various forms, cultivating devoted fans and creating a media empire. In 2024, the Walt Disney Company brought in $91 billion through these entertainment ventures. How did the Disney brand use storytelling to establish such prominent cultural dominance? This course will critically explore Disney’s socio-economic and cultural impacts through analysis of its theme parks, theatrical offerings/licensing, and fan behavior.
