Introduces the scientific foundations of human communication and explores how speech, language, swallowing, and hearing function in everyday life. Students examine how we produce speech, develop language, swallow, and perceive sounds, as well as how we can support these processes across the lifespan. The course integrates perspectives from communication science and disorders, technology, and culture. Emphasis is placed on the role of communication in promoting health and wellbeing and on its broader societal impact.
