Introduces the field of natural language processing and computational linguistics. Topics include finite-state methods, parsing, probabilistic methods, machine learning in NLP, computational semantics and applications of NLP technology. The course combines linguistic theory with computational modeling.
3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: LING 100 or LING 400; LING 402 (or equivalent Python experience); STAT 100 (or equivalent statistical experience).
