Prerequisite: Knowledge equivalent to an advanced molecular and cellular biology course is recommended. Restriction(s): Restricted to Undergrad - Urbana-Champaign. 58781	Lecture-Discussion	SR1	11:00AM -12:20PM	TR	1302 Everitt Laboratory	Golecki, H	Availability: Closed Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 08/24/26-12/09/26 Credit: 3 hours Section Title: Soft Robotics Section Info: In this design course, we will explore soft materials used for devices to interface with humans, mimic natural systems, and improve upon traditional robots. Students will: (1) Explore fundamentals of polymer chemistry and flexible sensors. (2) Read and discuss current literature in the field. (3) Build actuators and sensors using polymer molding, Arduino controls (no prior experience necessary). (4) Design novel advances in bioinspired, wearable, or implantable soft robots. Additional seats will be released to non-majors beginning July 21, 2026. Restriction(s): Restricted to Undergrad - Urbana-Champaign. Restricted to students in the Bioengineering department.
56513	Lecture	TC1	2:00PM -3:20PM	TR	2310 Everitt Laboratory	Liu, Y	Availability: CrossListOpen (Restricted) Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 08/24/26-12/09/26 Credit: 3 hours Section Title: Tech for Cancer Diag & Therapy Section Info: Technologies for Cancer Diagnosis and Therapy provides an introduction to how cancer is diagnosed and treated, focusing on related fundamental concepts in cancer biology and bioengineering. One major goal is for students to become comfortable integrating principles from physics, chemistry, engineering, and biology related to current strategies for understanding, detecting, and treating cancer. A second major goal is for students to understand and assess innovative solutions to current limitations in the field, and to use this information to generate a research proposal in the format of an NIH R21, which will be written and reviewed throughout the course term. The materials and content are designed for first year graduate students and senior undergraduate students from diverse majors. Recommended Prerequisites: BIOE 206 and CHEM 232, or equivalent knowledge. Additional seats will be released to non-majors beginning July 21, 2026.
