- Construction History explores 4500 years of human construction, focusing on materials, engineering, and fabrication. It provides an alternative narrative to traditional architecture, linking economics, industry, labor, engineering, and related disciplines. Lectures cover material typologies, production methods, and how they’ve influenced design, the evolution of building science, and the impact of technology on architectural aesthetics and ethics. The course concludes by examining contemporary design and technology issues. This section meets with ARCH 200. Differentiated syllabi will be provided for students from lower and upper division undergraduate study, as well as graduate students. Credit is not given toward graduation for: ARCH 200 and ARCH 403 section CH.
