- Building Bridges for Military Veterans and Reservists to Academic and Professional Excellence This first-year experience course is designed specifically for military veterans and service members with deployment experience beginning their journey in higher education. Students will learn practical strategies for a successful transition into university life, focusing specifically on social and cultural belonging in campus communities. Through weekly 50-minute in-person sessions complemented by flexible online coursework, students will develop personalized goals, build resilience and wellness strategies, navigate campus culture, and foster strong peer and community connections. By the end of this course, students will be equipped with a clearer sense of direction, enhanced self-awareness, and tools for a successful transition to higher education and beyond. This course provides an overview of the civilian and federal job search process, resources for creating effective resumes and cover letters, interview preparation, job negotiations, professional networking and knowledge of various industries and organizations. Additionally, employee rights and benefits to include retirement programs will be discussed in detail, as well as tips for business-related functions, workplace challenges and situations, increasing your salary, and the importance of finding a mentor(s) early in your academic career.
