Provides strategies, practices, and approaches for integrating creative and expressive movement and dance in various P-12 school music contexts. Students will connect theoretical ideas, primarily drawn from Rudolph Laban and Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, to practices for enhancing musical expressiveness and nurturing creative thinking/creative music-making in school music settings. The course is applicable to ensemble and general music settings. Students will have opportunities to apply concepts through peer-teaching. Meets in the first two weeks of Summer S2B, July 15-25.

This course equips students with tools and strategies to develop, adapt, and modify instruction for Multilingual Learners (English Language Learners) in P-12 school music contexts. Students will learn about policies and best practices in the fields of ESL and Bilingual instruction and how to apply them to a music setting. The course will also provide UIUC students with the opportunity to interact with and design instruction for P-12 Multilingual Learner students in the Champaign-Urbana community Meets in the last two weeks of Summer S2B, July 27 - August 8.
