Topic: "CREATIVE AND EXPRESSIVE MOVEMENT IN MUSIC EDUCATION." Provides strategies, practices, and approaches for integrating creative and expressive movement and dance in various P-12 school music contexts. Students will connect theoretical ideas, primarily drawn from Rudolph Laban and Émile Jaques-Dalcroze, to practices for enhancing musical expressiveness and nurturing creative thinking/creative music-making in school music settings. Topic: “PAUL ROLLAND STRING PEDAGOGY WORKSHOP.” This course meets June 22 – June 28 only. Instruction begins Sunday, June 22, 6:00pm and ends Saturday, June 28, 12:00pm. This course is offered for 1 or 2 credits. Based on the revolutionary books and films by Paul Rolland: The Teaching of Action in String Playing. This workshop offers a deep dive into Paul Rolland’s groundbreaking string pedagogy, providing participants with valuable techniques and expert insights applicable to any stringed instrument method, teaching environment, and to students of any age. The course may be accessed in person or online – synchronously or asynchronously. The workshop includes level-one endorsement. For more information visit, https://www.paulrollandsociety.org/workshop. Registration requires a $500 workshop fee for professionals or $250 workshop fee for full time students in addition to any tuition and fees for academic credit. The course will also provide UIUC students with the opportunity to interact with and design instruction for P-12 Multilingual Learner students in the Champaign-Urbana community Meets in the last two weeks of Summer S2B, July 27 - August 8.
