BookLab: Print to Programming
Section Info:
This summer intensive is held May 27 - 30, 2025, at the CU Community FabLab, 1301 S. Goodwin Avenue, Urbana. "BookLab: Print to Programming" bridges book history, information sciences, and digital humanities to offer an applied history of new media from the hand-press period to the present. BookLab examines how practices of reading, writing, and publishing have interacted—thematically and materially—with contemporaneous technological innovations over the past 250 years. The 2-credit summer intensive version of BookLab focuses on hands-on critical making experiments using textual technologies from letterpress to laser cutting. There will be some required reading before the in-person days, and a final written assignment afterwards.
