Section Info:
Description: In this eight-week introduction to Global History, we will cover roughly 750 years of human history across the globe. The course follows a basic chronology from the 13th to the mid-20th century, beginning with the Mongol Empire’s creation and ending with decolonization movements during the Cold War. Each week, we will use empires’ institutions and instabilities to investigate the worldwide networks of moving goods, peoples, and ideas that informed individuals’ experiences. The weekly lectures, readings, and in-class discussions will ultimately track how shifting notions of race, gender, and class have shaped histories of contact, resistance, and revolution in an unevenly integrating global system.
