This Fintech Practicum will provide a foundational understanding of Fintech, explore potential Fintech careers, and provide hands-on experience learning about real world Fintech problems and deliverables in the corporate environment. The program will focus on case studies and experiential learning opportunities, team building activities, project management, and mentorship. Deliverables will include research papers and project summaries. Strong quantitative skills and initiative is required. Middle Market Capital Finance
Section Info:
Middle Market Capital Finance provides students an understanding of the investment banking market process and private equity appetite for investment in privately held businesses with well under $500M in Revenue. This class will examine the range of middle-market companies’ capital requirements and growth objectives and how they utilize investment bankers to represent them to the capital market. Students will examine private equity market trends toward specific industries with higher returns, sustainable energy requirements and various growth opportunities. Through case studies and presentations from Guest Lecturers in the Investment Banking, Private Equity and other industries, students will examine businesses to look beyond top line revenue toward understand the quality of earnings, long term resource requirements and line-by-line due diligence analysis performed by investors. Students should expect a Professional Seminar style presentation.

ESG Certification

The objective of this course is to prepare students for the CFA ESG certification exam. The goal is that each student sits for and passes the exam at the end of the semester. ESG is a trend and a theme that will carry through your entire careers. More than 50% of global AUM now tracks some sort of ESG benchmark. Asset owners are moving more toward these benchmarks which means asset managers as well as sell-side firms, will need to follow suit. Even individual clients are expressing some desire to have portfolios designed with ESG in mind. The certification will be your first step toward having the credentials to speak authoritatively on the subject of ESG with clients of all kinds. This course is for undergraduates who are in their senior year. There are no prerequisites. Students are expected to have a strong understanding of asset pricing, portfolio construction, and financial market mechanics.
