Section Title:
Spec Network Nonconvex Opt.
Section Info:
Spectral Methods, Network Analysis, and Nonconvex Optimization: We will investigate the statistical aspects of spectral methods, network analysis, and various low-rank matrix optimization problems, with an emphasis on high-dimensional settings. We will cover different mathematical tools and techniques to handle these types of problems, with the goal of the course to expose students to the statistical literature and prepare students for research. The prerequisite is mathematical statistics (in principle Stat 410 would do) and linear algebra/matrix analysis. Stat 511 and Stat 575 would be helpful.

Section Title:
Advanced Causal Inference
Section Info:
The course aims to equip graduate students with the foundational knowledge and skills needed to begin research in causal inference. Topics covered include: (i) key concepts in causal inference, such as potential outcomes, confounding, missing data, and causal graphs; (ii) identification, estimation, and inference of causal estimands; and (iii) recent advancements in causal inference, such as machine learning-based causal inference approaches. Prerequisite: STAT 510 or STAT 511, and STAT 527 or STAT 528.
