Approved for Letter and S/U grading. May be repeated in separate terms up to 12 hours if topics vary. Prerequisite: See Class Schedule or departmental course information for topics and prerequisites. For students with sophomore or junior standing.

The methods of extracting meaningful information from data using probability theory and statistical analyses will be presented. Additionally, students will gain familiarity with the concepts through programming exercises using Python notebooks. Topics to be covered include: basics of statistics and probability theory, probability distributions, estimators, uncertainties, confidence intervals and hypothesis testing, Fourier and Monte Carlo methods. Restriction(s): Restricted to students with Sophomore, Junior, or Senior class standing.
