Section Info: Introduction to Political Philosophy, 3 hours. Everyone thinks about justice and human rights, but what makes for a philosophical perspective on these topics? We'll start with careful readings of some classic documents - from the American and French revolutions, the founding of the United Nations, etc. Also early in the term, we'll think about the ethical and historical significance of Hurrican Katrina. Then we will move to systematic philosophical analyses. We will pay particular attention to issues of community, social division, and economic powers.
