Field Experience

SHOW FINAL EXAM SCHEDULE

Credit: 1 OR 2 hours.

Field based course that exposes students to procedures and methods used in various resource settings in a hands-on manner. Includes weekly field trips to visit representative natural resource and environmental science settings with supporting laboratory exercises. Content of offerings vary by section, but all focus on resource management, environmental quality and assessment, and effects of consumption and use on the environment. Field trips required.

Additional fees may apply. See Class Schedule. May be repeated in the same term up to 4 hours if topics vary or separate terms to a maximum of 6 hours. Prerequisite: NRES 201 and NRES 219. The department strongly recommends that students take only one section per semester, except under highly unusual circumstances.

Students will build skills to assess reefs and connecting habitats in conjunction with studies of how humans are impacting fish behavior and/or distribution. W223 Turner Hall Location Pending	Bried, J Jog, S Bried, J Jog, S	Part of Term: B Date Range: 10/20/25-12/10/25 Special Approval: Departmental Approval Required Credit: 2 hours Section Title: Conservation & Culture India Section Info: CONSERVATION & CULTURE IN INDIA: This second eight-week course (meets October 22-December 03) and field experience (tentatively Jan 1-17, 2026) will introduce students to sustainable practices in conservation in the Western Ghats, a biodiversity hotspot in India. Students will get an immersive experience in the rich tapestry of ancient traditions, cultures, monuments, food, performing arts, and religious festivals. Students will visit nationally important forests and get firsthand experience with forest conservation practices in a tropical, developing nation. Agro-forestry, invasive species management, sustainable livelihood and ethical harvesting, organic waste management, climate change mitigation, and socio-economic impact to local resource-based communities will be emphasized in a two-week hands-on immersive experience spanning different ecosystem complexes in north and west central India.
