Alternating poetry and prose, concentrates on a major author from one of the following areas: epic, history, lyric poetry, oratory, drama, or philosophy. Areas normally follow this sequence in successive years.

May be repeated to a maximum of 20 hours if topics vary. Prerequisite: GRK 491 or equivalent.

The Persian Wars This course will provide an overview of the key events of the conflict between Greeks and Persians during the late 6th and early 5th centuries BCE, as well as their causes and effects. Students will read primary source material in ancient Greek and secondary scholarship evaluating the Greek literary and epigraphic evidence in light of other sources of information.
