Introduction to artistic movements, contemporary and cultural trends that have shaped the histories of dance. Each year offers a particular focus on dance and its symbiotic relationship to: another art form, like music; socio-political ideologies such as gender, race, sexuality or national identities; or contemporary issues, like environment or technology. The goal of the course is to gain a broad understanding of dance as a distinctive generator of new knowledge and vital cultural agent.

Prerequisite: Major or minor standing in Dance or consent of instructor.
