Chekhov in Translation and Adaptation: The course focuses on the analysis of contemporary adaptations and translations of Chekhov from a global perspective. Highlighting such works as “Drowning” by Maria Irene Fornes, Three Sisters by Inua Ellams, El Nogalar by Tanya Saracho, and The Black Monk by Kama Ginkas, this class takes a comparative look at approaches to adapting Chekhov. Students will encounter emerging concepts in translation and adaptation studies and engage deeply with Chekhovian dramaturgy through the process of adapting his short stories and/or plays.
