Same as EALC 495. 3 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. May be repeated to a maximum of 6 undergraduate hours or 8 graduate hours as topics vary. Prerequisite: Sophomore standing or consent of instructor.

The course will guide you through the main aspects of Jainism by looking at its objects, including artworks (statues, manuscripts, etc.), but also items used in everyday life (the ascetic's clothes, teapots, etc.). The course offers a survey of Jainism through a selection of skillfully designed objects with the aim to convey the importance of material culture in understanding the Jain religious tradition.
