Hum Rights/Poli Cult Argentina
Section Info:
On-campus class meetings: Weekly class meetings on campus during the first half of spring semester. Travel to Argentina: March 8-17, 2024. The class will examine the social, economic, and political issues within modern Argentine society. Through interdisciplinary lenses, students will explore the history of Argentina’s populist regimes, military authoritarian regimes, and transition to democracy. We will build a framework to better understand present problems and trends, such as the transition to democracy, the re-emergence of populism, economic instability, and poverty. The seminar will combine class lectures and discussions, cultural immersion in Argentina, and considerable on-the-ground interaction with Argentinean scholars, and field trips in and around Buenos Aires. Drones and Asymmetric Warfare
Section Info:
This course explores strategic and moral issues associated with unmanned aerial vehicles, commonly known as drones. Robotic aircraft already play a important role in 21st century warfare, counter-terrorism, and intelligence operations, and will become increasingly prominent as the technology advances. Over 80 countries utilize drones in some manner, indicating the appeal of unmanned aircraft. Additionally, the commercial drone industry is expected to rapidly expand in the coming years, creating additional security and privacy questions.
