Credit: 4 hours.

This course relates the structure and function of streams and rivers to challenges and opportunities in their conservation, management, and restoration using a combination of readings, discussions, and field trips to study sites. Students will develop an integrative understanding of stream and river ecosystem management from the site to watershed scale on issues spanning from nutrient pollution, to the natural flow regime, to the design and implementation of freshwater protected areas. No special equipment will be required. Three required field trips will occur on or near campus.

Additional fees may apply. See Class Schedule. 4 undergraduate hours. 4 graduate hours. Prerequisite: NRES 219 or similar introductory course in ecology.
