This course examines the history of education in the United States through the experiences of marginalized populations. Black, Indigenous, Latina/o/x and Asian Americans have been instrumental in the creation and maintenance of communities, and with it, educational spaces. This class will examine the history of schools and schooling as it pertains to communities of color in the United States, by engaging conversations on settler colonialism, and the role that the evolving racial politics of the 20th century had in erasing their participation from historical accounts.
