Credit: 2 hours Section Title: Caps. and Apps. in Practice Section Info: Capabilities & Application in Practice: In this guided inquiry course, students will be engaging in a community of practice of emerging professionals focused on cultivating a professional identity. Students will meet in seminar-style for 8 sessions (7 classes, plus a culminating iCAP Event. Class sessions meet every other week, over the 16-week semester to explicitly connect the ethics, principles, and fluencies of their courses to real-world Practicum experiences and professional goals. The course is designed for current Practicum, recent-Practicum, and pre-Practicum students. This course does not replace IS549 Practicum. In order to gain Practicum course credit, you must enroll in IS549 Practicum and complete at least 100 hours of work. Advanced standing (at least 20 hours credit and completion of IS505 and IS510) in MSLIS OR CAS program. Restriction(s): Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign. Section Title: E-Learning Section Info: MUST CHOOSE 2 or 4 credit hours. Provides an introduction to a wide variety of online learning methods, including videos, multimedia tutorials, webinars, and online courses (including synchronous, asynchronous, and hybrid models) with a focus on their use in libraries and information centers. The course will prepare students to develop patron-oriented e-learning resources and to lead online courses following best practices. Restriction(s): Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign. Successful partnerships rely on a bidirectional relationship where the needs of both the library and stakeholder are mutually considered. Partnerships rely on the library, stakeholders, and citizens participating in active dialogue to evaluate and assess community needs in order to develop and implement services, and programs. The focus of this course is public libraries, but students will be able to apply what they learned to other information-providing settings. Restriction(s): Restricted to Graduate - Urbana-Champaign.
