In this course we study the social and cultural history of France from its beginnings to the end of the eighteenth century in a European and global context. The goal is to provide students with a thorough understanding of major social developments and cultural movements that both characterize pre-revolutionary France and have left their indelible mark on modern French society. Readings and class discussion in French.
