Rodriguez, L Rodriguez, L	Part of Term: 1 Date Range: 01/16/24-05/01/24 Credit: 3 hours Section Title: Comm-Based Design & Mgmt Section Info: This course is a project-based experience designed to engage students in development of resilient food, energy, and water supply chains for disaster-prone regions. Students will investigate background factors that provide context for specific disaster-prone regions and viable design solutions. Students will work with local communities, aid organizations, and peer institutions when identifying resilient designs, eventually seeking pathways to implement solutions with partner communities. Students will emerge with skills for managing such projects, while collaborating closely with communities where unique local factors have significant impacts on sustainable solutions. Some students may choose to participate in an optional study tour where we will visit and directly engage with communities studied in this course. Grades for all students in ETMA 499 are calculated based on course related activities only, as described in this syllabus. Whether or not students choose to participate in study tours is not factored into student grades in this course. Students who do choose to participate in study tours will register for ABE 398, Special Topics, with Professor Rodríguez, and will be graded and receive an additional credit separately for their efforts in ABE 398 while on travel. At this time specific dates for the study tour are to be determined. The currently estimated dates are May 18-25, 2024. Restriction(s): Restricted to Undergrad - Urbana-Champaign.
