Topic: This course studies the relationships between art, politics, and social change, and explore questions about the potentiality and boundaries of creative practice as an agent of change. Students will watch films, read texts, listen podcasts, visit places and participate in exercises that borrow from a broad range of Contemporary Art, Activism, Performance, Architecture, Poetry, Art Education, and the Humanities, as well as other discursive and practice-based forms. The seminar format will primarily focus on group discussions about materials examined for each class and in-class activities, while students can tailor most the assignments based on their own areas of study and practice and may include written papers, time-based work such as video essays, film poetry, creative visual/performance projects, conceptual designs, and public intervention.
