Printmaking: Letterpress

Topic: Printmaking: Letterpress. This 8-week course will introduce students to letterpress printing through an accelerated schedule of projects and demonstrations. At the end of this course students will be able to sort and set type, compose stable lock-ups on the press bed, and print using one of our three Vandercook letterpress proofing presses. Students will learn about type design, the history of moveable type and make prints that combine text and image to build on the tradition of democratized social commentary in printmaking through the structure of political cartoons and historic broadsides. Some seats are reserved for A&D majors, A&D minors, and non-A&D majors. If you receive a "reserve closed" error, all seats for your major are filled, check back on December 1. Any available seats left on December 1 will be made available to all majors.
