Neurodiversity is an umbrella term for several neurotypes [e.g., Autism, ADHD, OCD, etc] that differ from neurotypical mindsets and is often misunderstood by the majority of society. While some scholars have written literature on students with autism or ADHD, actual neurodivergent voices are often unheard or filtered through neurotypical thought processes. Course readings will mainly be written by neurodivergent authors. This is also an opportunity for a neurodivergent professor to speak and fill the void and absence of critical information to better understand, support, and engage with some individuals in academia, recognizing that no two neurodivergent individuals are alike. Beyond a deeper recognition of neurodivergence, the anticipated outcomes of those attending class are suggestions on how to accept, embrace, and empower neurodivergent students and professors, or at least understand their perspectives, coping mechanisms, and navigation systems with a heightened empathic awareness. Significant amounts of reading and writing are required. Publication opportunities are probable.
