Credit: 1 TO 5 hours.

Provides credit toward undergraduate degree for undertaking study and/or a research project through faculty led programs or from an accredited foreign institution or approved overseas program.

Approved for both letter and S/U grading. May be repeated in the same or separate terms to a maximum of 18 hours. Final determination of appropriate credit will be made upon completion of the work done abroad and/or on campus. Prerequisite: One academic year (or one semester in the case of transfer students) in residence at UIUC, good academic standing, completion of at least thirty semester hours toward the bachelor's degree, and prior approval of the Department of Advertising. Some programs have additional requirements.

In this travel course, students will explore and examine advertising practices and brand experiences related to tourism and travel for international destinations or "place brands." The class will develop knowledge and skills related to how destinations abroad use media, attractions, events, people, history, government, businesses and culture to tell their brand stories and create brand identities in the context of a global tourism marketplace. Experiential learning and immersive activities abroad in London will allow students to gain cultural competencies and global perspectives related to international travel and tourism. Course requires travel in May, 2024 for approximately 14 days. A course fee will be assessed for students participating in this travel course; the fee will be made public as soon as available. Students will have the option to either book flights on their own or participate in a group flight option. Instructor approval is required. The application form is now closed for this program. No additional students will be considered for enrollment
