Motivational Interviewing
Section Info:
This course focuses on building students' skills in Motivational Interviewing, an evidence-based method for talking with people who are ambivalent about change. This course differentiates the counseling method from other counseling approaches and teaches students the practice theory upon which the counseling method is built. Ample time is devoted to practicing skills via role plays. Skills developed include reflective listening skills, formulation of questions, and directive methods that are distinct in MI. Special attention is devoted to applying Motivational Interviewing with diverse populations and across varied target problems.
